Metal Armchairs

Created by tsigarasdesign for the LOAD/UNLOAD 2: Memory Manual exhibition, Metal Armchairs is a seating series rooted in the industrial memory of Piraeus and its traditional sheet-metal workshops.

Metal forms the starting point of the design. Sheets of matte-finished steel are folded into precise geometric planes, creating a continuous structure in which construction and form become one. The rigidity and precision of the metal are contrasted with soft cushions upholstered in street-art fabric, introducing an unexpected layer of colour and urban expression.

The low lounge profile and independent footrest complete the composition, translating the raw materiality of industrial Piraeus into a contemporary object for everyday use.

For tsigarasdesign, Metal Armchairs is not a nostalgic reference to the city’s industrial past, but a contemporary reinterpretation of it — where memory is transformed into material,
material into form, and form into a functional object with a distinct design identity.
